Statement
The 5th SYLECTION 2026 (Symposium of Literature, Culture, and Communication) stands as an interdisciplinary academic space bringing together researchers, academics, practitioners, and students to reflect on the role of artificial intelligence in human life. Under the theme “Humanity in the Age of AI: Language, Culture, and Communication Challenges,” this symposium is committed to fostering open dialogue on how language, culture, and communication can continue to grow ethically and meaningfully amid rapid technological transformation.
In line with the spirit of “Collaborate, Communicate, Create,” SYLECTION 2026 invites all participants to collaborate across disciplines, build honest and open communication, and create knowledge that places human values at the core of every innovation. We believe that technological advancement, including artificial intelligence, should strengthen, not replace, cultural diversity, linguistic creativity, and the depth of human interaction.
Through this symposium, the Faculty of Literature, Culture, and Communication of Universitas Ahmad Dahlan reaffirms its commitment to advancing research that is relevant, inclusive, and impactful for a sustainable future of communication and culture.
Publication Ethics
The International Proceeding of SYLECTION (Symposium of Literature, Culture, and Communication) is committed to upholding the highest standards of publication ethics and takes all necessary measures against any form of publication malpractice. The Organizing Committee and Scientific Committee are responsible for preventing such malpractice and do not tolerate plagiarism, data fabrication, or falsification in any form. All parties involved — authors, reviewers, and committee members — are expected to fully commit to good publication practice, in reference to the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) Code of Conduct.
By submitting an abstract or full paper, authors affirm that:
- The manuscript is their own original work;
- The manuscript has not been previously published, in whole or in part, in any language;
- The manuscript is not simultaneously under consideration for publication or presentation at any other conference, seminar, or journal.
Allegation of Research Misconduct
Research misconduct includes, but is not limited to, fabrication, falsification, citation manipulation, and plagiarism in the production, performance, or reporting of research, as well as in the writing of a submitted paper. Where misconduct is suspected in a paper submitted to or presented at SYLECTION, the Scientific Committee will refer to COPE best practices to investigate the allegation fairly.
- A submitted abstract or full paper found to contain such misconduct will be rejected from the review process.
- A paper already included in the proceedings that is later found to contain misconduct may be subject to retraction, with a notice linked to the original publication.
- The corresponding author will be notified of any allegation and given the opportunity to respond on behalf of all co-authors before a final decision is made.
- Institutions of the authors concerned may be informed where appropriate, in line with COPE guidance.
Complaints and Appeals
SYLECTION maintains a clear procedure for handling complaints related to the symposium’s editorial and review process, including but not limited to: unfair treatment by reviewers, peer-review manipulation, conflicts of interest, or citation manipulation. Complaints should be directed to the Conference Secretariat and will be handled in accordance with COPE guidelines.
Ethical Oversight
Where research submitted involves human subjects, animals, hazardous materials, or procedures, authors must clearly disclose this in the manuscript and, where required, provide evidence of ethical clearance from a relevant institutional or legal body. Where research involves confidential business, cultural, or community data, authors must justify how such data has been treated and protected.
Duties of Authors
- Reporting Standards: Authors must present an accurate, honest account of their research and an objective discussion of its significance, with sufficient detail for replication where applicable.
- Originality and Plagiarism: Manuscripts must be entirely original work. All sources, including the authors’ own prior publications, must be properly cited. Direct quotations must appear with quotation marks and appropriate citation.
- Data Access and Reproducibility: Authors should be prepared to provide supporting data upon reasonable request from the Scientific Committee.
- Concurrent Submission: Submitting the same manuscript to more than one conference, seminar, or journal concurrently is not permitted.
- Acknowledgement of Sources: All data sources and prior influential works must be properly acknowledged and cited, preferably using a reference manager such as Mendeley, as required by the submission guidelines.
- Authorship: Authorship must accurately reflect each individual’s contribution to the conception, design, execution, or interpretation of the study. All listed authors must have seen and approved the final submitted version.
- Conflicts of Interest: Authors must disclose any financial or other conflicts of interest, as well as all sources of funding for the research.
- Correction of Errors: Authors who discover a significant error after submission or presentation must promptly notify the Conference Secretariat and cooperate in issuing a correction or retraction as needed.
Duties of the Scientific Committee / Session Chairs
- Publication Decisions: Decisions to accept, reject, or request revisions to abstracts and full papers are based on the initial screening by the Scientific Committee prior to the seminar, combined with input and evaluation notes from Session Chairs during the parallel presentation sessions, guided by originality, relevance to the symposium theme, and academic merit.
- Review of Manuscripts: Every submitted abstract and full paper is first screened for originality (including similarity/plagiarism checks) prior to scheduling. Accepted papers are grouped into parallel sessions by room according to topic or sub-theme, presented and evaluated directly by the assigned Session Chair and audience during the seminar.
- Room Assignment and Session Management: The Scientific Committee is responsible for assigning each paper to an appropriate room and time slot based on thematic relevance, and for ensuring each parallel session is led by a Session Chair with relevant expertise in that room’s topic area.
- Fair Play: Papers presented in every room are evaluated solely on intellectual merit and quality of presentation, without regard to the authors’ gender, race, religion, nationality, or institutional affiliation.
- Confidentiality: Information regarding submitted manuscripts is kept confidential prior to the seminar; only accepted abstracts/papers and their assigned room and schedule are shared publicly.
- Conflicts of Interest: Committee members and Session Chairs do not use unpublished material from submitted manuscripts for their own research without the authors’ written consent, and recuse themselves from chairing or evaluating sessions in which they have a conflict of interest.
Duties of Reviewers / Session Chairs and Discussants
- Contribution to Decisions: Live review during the seminar — through Session Chairs’ evaluation and Q&A discussion in each room — assists the Scientific Committee in confirming the paper’s suitability for the proceedings and helps authors improve their manuscripts before final submission.
- In-Session Evaluation: Each Session Chair is responsible for moderating the presentation in their assigned room, providing direct feedback to presenters, and recording evaluation notes to be forwarded to the Scientific Committee.
- Confidentiality: Notes and evaluation results from each room session are treated as privileged information and are shared only with the Scientific Committee.
- Objectivity: Evaluation of presentations in every room must be conducted objectively, with clear, constructive, and well-supported feedback delivered directly to presenters during the Q&A session.
- Acknowledgement of Sources: Session Chairs and discussants should point out any relevant published work not cited by the presenter and flag any substantial similarity with other submissions or previously published work.
- Promptness: Session Chairs must be present and prepared for their assigned room and time slot, and should notify the committee promptly if unable to attend.
- Conflicts of Interest: Session Chairs and discussants must not evaluate or moderate sessions involving authors with whom they have a conflict of interest, and must not use information obtained during the session for personal advantage.
